Caravans are indeed expensive items and, as such, need to be
comprehensively insured against damage or theft. Dial Direct offers an
insurance package catered specifically to owners of caravans.
As a company in tune with the insurance needs of South Africans, Dial Direct
has put an insurance package in place that will ensure peace of mind for caravan
owners.
Dial Direct's caravan insurance policy offers cover for the use of caravans for
domestic, pleasure and social purposes. Obviously like most insurance claims, in
the event of theft or damage to a caravan, a basic excess will be applicable.
However, as a comprehensively insured by Dial Direct, claims will be paid out in
the event that a caravan is stolen or damaged. Dial Direct will pay out an
insurance claim on a caravan based on its reasonable market value, or the stated
value on Dial Direct's insurance schedule - whichever is the lesser.
If a caravan is stolen, Dial Direct will take up to four weeks from the time it
has been reported stolen and a case number has been generated by the police. If
a caravan has been financed, Dial Direct will pay out the finance company first.
With regards to towing and storage of caravans, Dial Direct will cover
the reasonable costs of towing or storing the caravan at the closest caravan
repairer. However, these costs will only be covered if the insured calls the
Dial Direct Towline number first and then uses the Dial Direct recommended
towing operator.
In terms of other party caravan insurance, Dial Direct will compensate other
parties in terms of expenses, costs and damages regarding damage to property,
injury or death as a result of the insured's caravan.
Under any of these circumstances, Dial Direct will pay out up to R300 000 for
fire or explosions and up to R1 000 000 for damage to someone else's property.
The maximum
payout for injury or death is R50 000 per accident.
Note that Dial Direct will not pay out claims regarding the damage or theft of
caravans if any of the followings conditions exist:
If the driver of a vehicle towing a caravan has no license, has an
endorsed license or is under the influence or drugs and/or alcohol at the time
of the incident;
If the caravan is found not to be roadworthy;
If the caravan is used in countries outside of South Africa (excluding
Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe);
If there is an accidental injury or death of a employee or household member
while working;
If property is in your possession and that of your household members at the
time of the incident (unless insured under the caravan contents);
There is injury or death of any persons inside the caravan at the time of
the accident; and
If coverage falls under the Road Accident Fund.
