Dial Direct Insurance on Portable Possessions Cover

Unfortunately in South Africa we live in a society where many things are not only under risk of damage or loss, but from widespread theft as well.

As such, Dial Direct Insurance has a Portable Possessions policy that is designed to compensate you for items described as portable possessions. Obviously in the event of a theft or loss of portable possessions, you will be required to pay a basic excess, as per standard insurance industry practice.

Thereafter Dial Direct Insurance will compensate you for loss or damage to possessions that you and your family members carry around with you provided they are specified on Dial Direct's policy schedule. (Note that items valued over R1750 must be separately specified in your policy).

Items specified as per the schedule can include swimming pool and borehole equipment, bicycles, contact lenses, cell phones and prescription eye glasses.

However, Dial Direct Insurance will not compensate you:
 

• For the loss or theft of cheques, cash or any other negotiable instruments;
• If your washing is stolen while out in the open;
• If deterioration, damage or loss results due to restoration, repair, ironing, cleaning, moths or vermin;
• For any items that you used specifically for professional, business or trade purposes;
• For lost or damaged items from inside a locked boot of a vehicle that exceed R8500 per incident. (Note that if there is no evidence that a break-in occurred, Dial Direct will not pay out on the claim);
• For loss or damage to items that occurred as a direct result of water immersion, over-winding or leaky batteries, and
• For more than R1000 per incident in total, should your insured items be stolen from the cabin of a locked vehicle. (Note that if there is no evidence that a break-in occurred, Dial Direct will not pay out on the claim)
