At some point most South Africans will experience some form of financial
difficulty, where money becomes tight and hard choices need to be made regarding
what bills get paid and which don't.
Unfortunately in most circumstances car or home insurance premiums are
the first to go. Perhaps this understandable when people feel they are up
against a financial wall (insurance is after all a grudge purchase, right?).
However, imagine how the same people would feel if they experienced some sort of
damage, theft or loss of any kind on any scale, only to discover that due to
missing their monthly insurance payments, their insurance has lapsed and they
are not covered.
Add to that the fact that in South Africa we are all, unfortunately, at a higher
than average risk of being burgled, high-jacked, robbed or involved in a car
accident. Just being without comprehensive insurance for one day could sink a
whole family financially for years to come.
Dial Direct Insurance general manager, Fabian Angiers had this to say,
'It is unfortunate but it does happen that people let their insurance policies
lapse or don't pay them thinking that it is a short-term financial solution.
'However, being a victim of theft or an accident and uninsured at the same, can
be crippling financially and put a large strain on both the family and its
finances, and therefore quality of life,' he said.
Angiers went on to say that too many people perceive insurance as a 'nice to
have' as opposed to an 'absolute necessity'. There are many people who do not
realize that their monthly insurance premiums can be directly linked to their
homes or bonds.
For instance, if your house or car is financed through a bank or financial
institution, you are legally required to have insurance policies in place to
protect your property or vehicle, i.e. 'the bank's investment'.
So by being late on an insurance premium can cause a 'knock on' effect. Over and
above the inconvenience and risk associated with a 'bounced' payment bouncing,
your bank or financial institution will charge you additional administration
fees for returning the debit order and then re-debiting it again later.
However, one of the great things about Dial Direct Insurance is that it
offers you a premium waiver cover for six months in the event of retrenchment or
for dread diseases.
What this means is that should you not be able to pay your Dial Direct insurance
premiums as a result of having a dread disease or of having recently being
retrenched, your Dial Direct premiums will be automatically be covered for up to
six months.
